Tim Clark
Tim was born February 3rd 1958 in Frankfort Kentucky. He was the middle child of three boys. Older brother Mike, younger brother Steve. He taught himself to play drums when he was 13 years old. By the age of 15 he was playing local bars and honkey tonks in neighboring towns.
He was also an outstanding athlete. A three year letterman in two sports. Football and Basketball. Playing in the 1976 Kentucky class 4A State Championship in football. Going on to play the position of runningback at the collegiate level at Morehead State University. After realizing the NFL was not in his future Tim decided to give music another shot. Not as a drummer…but as a vocalist/frontman. Working hard at his new craft, one opportunity led to another and eventually he landed the gig that would change his life forever! Becoming the lead vocalist/frontman for the band SugarCreek.
A Charlotte North Carolina based group that was on the rise. Tim recorded five albums with SugarCreek in the 1980’s. Gaining national exposure reaching the semi-finals on Ed McMahon’s Star Search in 1984. The 1985 semi-finals broadcast on ABC that featured SugarCreek (fronted by Tim) was one of the highest rated television shows in ABC’s history.
An estimated 23 million viewers. That attention led to a recording contracts in the US and in Europe. Allowing Tim’s voice to be heard around the world! In 1992 exhausted from years of touring and the pressures of a growing young family, Tim wanted desperately to get off the road.
His prayers were answered when a friend told him that a new dinner show was opening in Myrtle Beach. Dolly Parton’s Dixie Stamped. He got an audition and landed the job of Master of Ceremonies and the featured comedian. A position he would hold for over a decade. Performing to almost 1000 people per show. Tim performed in over 3000 shows from 1992 to 2003. Winning cast member of the year in 1997.
An award given to the most outstanding employee in DollyWood Productions Inc. A company consisting of over 1500. Music was always his first love, so in 1995 while at Dixie Stampede.
Tim started a little band that set out to just play every now and then. Only a few weekends a year. Nothing serious. Fast Forward 28 years. Tim has performed over 1000 gigs with his “weekend” band. Weddings, Convention’s, Cruiseships. Maine to Miami, North Dakota to Nassau and even in Hawaii” Tim has truly “Been There Done That” Now…he is doing it again. With The Band of Oz!!!
